How to read topographic maps?
In the reading of a topographic map some things to keep in mind are that blue will represent water, green will be orchids or forest areas, black and red represent roads and highways. Other items include the contour lines (shaped in a V) show valleys and stream beds and the red areas are urban. You may also see purple markings which means that portion was added after the original publication of the map.
