How many tons are in a yard?
This varies depending on the product. Rocks and soils tend to be a little over 1 ton per cubic yard. Mulch and some amendments tend to be under 1 ton. We prefer to do things in yards to provide a more consistent quantity. For example: when it rains or snows, the water will weigh the material down and cause the customer to get less material per ton than if he or she purchased it by the yard.
