Is burn-in reversible?
It depends. Some vendors advise displaying the inverse of a burned-in pattern and even provide an “inverse” feature. Therefore, if you have a burned-in yellow region, they advise you to display yellow in that region and white everywhere else for a while. This burns in the rest of the screen and thus hides the pattern. This shortens the life of the plasma display. On the other hand, there are many reports of apparent burn-in disappearing with subsequent normal use in seconds, minutes, or even hours. The trade calls this milder form of burn-in “shadowing” or “image retention”. The cause behind shadowing is not well understood.
