It was probably Jewish people you saw. Its rare to find a community of Amish people in the UK normally you find them in the USA.

I’m not really answering your question but i have a story to tell that’s like it. I’m a member if the SCA. The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. So in short, My dad and i were at an event and we were dressed very funny. We had to go to the supermarket and while we were there some ladies came up and asked us what religion we were. It was very funny and they were super nice. There are lots of german baptist people where I live now and they dress “Plain” like the amish do. They are always very nice about people asking questions. So i guess next time just go ask them. People LOVE to talk about themselves.
