Why Greek mythology?

RATHBONE: It’s something that I’ve always been interested in. Since joining the band I’ve done a lot more research, but I’d read a lot of this old stuff like Virgil’s Aeneid and Homer’s Iliad, and I was that kid in the ’80s playing Dungeons and Dragons and listening to heavy metal. I had the idea for the name of the band long before we started the band up. Once I had established that it was going to be called Lair of the Minotaur, it just kind of stuck that it would be cool to have all the songs about Greek mythology. There’s enough songs out there about Satan or serial killers or whatever. SHOCKHOUND: There’s plenty of blood and demons in Greek mythology. RATHBONE: Yeah, really its chock full of death and war and monsters and drama. It’s perfect fodder for metal lyrics. SHOCKHOUND: Other than the Minotaur, is there a particular Greek mythological figure that you’re fascinated with? RATHBONE: I’m kind of partial to Eris, the Goddess of Strife. There are writings about her on the battle
