To check the fluid level in any of the Jetta 99.5-2005 you need VAG-COM software and a VAG-COM pro kit which allows you to hack into the computer of the car which will tell you tempature of the the fluid. As long as their is no visable leaks the transmission is full. However if the fluid tempature is to high the fluid should be replaced with fresh fluid.
