Why canvas tote bags?
I showed my students a PowerPoint presentation on the effects of the plastic bags on the planet. The pictures and facts shocked them and left them in complete awe. They wanted to take immediate action and wanted to begin with our community. They created a proposal that same day for the headmaster of the school to create a St. Mary’s canvas bag and reduce the use of plastic bags in our corner of the world. My class wanted to demonstrate the three Rs reduce, reuse, recycle. Q: Are the kids excited to do this project? A: The students were excited from the moment they sent the proposal, to the recent experience of passing out the finished product to the St. Mary’s families. Their smiles stretched from ear to ear. They were all intrinsically motivated to make a difference and ecstatic that they can lead by example.
