What is the Atikaki Provincial Park?
The Atikaki Provincial Park is a wilderness park, Manitoba’s first ever created. This means that there are no roads, logging areas, or major developments in the park. It is located east of Lake Winnipeg, along the Ontario border in the Canadian Shield region. Most of the water flows east to Lake Winnipeg, and the lakes and rivers are warmer than most cold rivers that flow from mountain streams. The Atikaki is home to wildlife such as moose, elk, black bears, loons, bald eagles, woodland caribou, and other creatures of the boreal forest. It is well known for its beautiful waterways, and is a popular destination for an adventurous canoe trip. Dogskin is one of the few lodges inside the Atikaki. Being inside the park places strict regulations on what we can and cannot do, but it all results in a very well protected wilderness that will remain the same for generations to come.
