A radio frequency identification (REID) system consists of a set of readers and transponders. The transponders are generally in the form of tags or chips, and identify themselves when interrogated by a reader. Some tags are read-only–programmed once and then read as needed–while others are read/write–able to be programmed with new information by the reader.
