How do I do a disk clean up…?
When a file is written to the hard drive, it is written to one or more clusters. One files cluster can be scattered across different locations on the hard drive, fragmented. This means pieces are split up and fragmented, and when it comes to fetching these files it has to retrieve all the pieces from different sectors. Disk defragmentation speeds up the access time of files. The Defragmentating the hard drive means the pieces are put closer together and speeds up reading and writing to the hard drive. Files are found on the hard drive by the read/write head which has to move around to each place the file is, so therefore if the file’s pieces are saved next to each other it saves the work and time of the computer.
