Did any hitler youth die?
20,000 members of the Hitler Youth were formed into the 12th SS Panzer Division “Hitler Jugend”. The division was defending Normandy during the Allied invasion and first saw action on June 7, 1944. They put up a terrific fight against the Canadians around the town of Caen. They then became part of the battle of the “Falaise Pocket.” They started with 20,540 men, 2 months later after Caen and Falaise, the division was down to 12,500 men. They returned to Germany to refit and then fought against the Americans during the Battle of the Bulge. At the end of the war, the division was stationed in Austria and on May 8, 1945 the surviving 10,000 men (teenagers) of the division surrendered to the U.S Army.
