How is Queen’s University protecting the privacy of my personal information?
Queen’s University and the Office of Advancement are committed to protecting the privacy of members of our community. Since June 2006 the University has been governed by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (the Act). In accordance with the Act, students and alumni are given notice that their personal information will be used by the Office of Advancement for friend-raising and fundraising purposes. Indeed, this use is specifically authorized by the Act. Under this purview Queen’s has provided alumni personal information to Harris for the purpose of undertaking the alumni directory project. This personal information is limited to name, degree, year of graduation, telephone number, mailing address (personal and business, if available), and email address. The compilation of an alumni directory is consistent with the purpose for which the information was originally collected and, as such, this project meets the requirements of the Act.
