None of the other states with “handsfree” laws have any sort of provision in it against CB radios. Of course, it’s California, anything’s possible, especially when it comes to finding ways to make misery for truck drivers. But I doubt it. Use of a CB involves intermittent communication, one hand leaves the steering wheel long enough to make a 30 second transmission, usually. Most drivers have their CB mikes hanging at arm’s reach, so they’re not actually holding them unless they are talking. If they were going to write tickets for talking on a CB, they’d have to write tickets for adjusting the FM radio, sipping from a bottle of water, or just driving one-handed while you rest your other hand on the windowsill or stick shift. Truckers like everyone else will have to use a handsfree device for their cell phones, though. Most already do, since we typically drive in states where there are already handsfree laws in effect.
