Why won 64-bit versions of Windows XP or Windows Vista work with wireless?

0

64-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista are specialized distributions of Windows intended for a very limited audience. These versions of Windows are not designed for distribution to the normal home end-user, but instead are targeted at high-end end users for very specific applications. A large number of Windows applications will not function properly or not function at all under 64-bit versions of these operating systems. Each individual application needs to be specifically re-written to support 64-bit Windows. In addition hardware drivers for printers, scanners and other peripherals may not always exist. Specifically the Cisco VPN Client will not function under 64-bit versions of Windows. Cisco has no plans to release a 64-bit compatible version of the Cisco VPN Client that SUNY Oswego uses for Windows XP 64-bit or Windows Vista 64-bit.
