Where was the Secret Service?
confidence that the Secret Service will protect Barack Obama with every fiber of their being. Or maybe one lame president does not have anything to do with a very popular, incoming one with a very high approval rating. Hopefully, that is the case. Can we equate President Bush’s historic low approval rating with apathy on the Secret Service agent’s part? Ironically, while Bush was praising U.S. efforts in the Iraqi war and democracy, Iraqi citizens praised al-Zaidi’s shoe assault on the president. Shoes are the worst insult in Iraqi culture. President Bush wasn’t slow though; his reaction was good. Can you imagine what would have happened had one of the shoes actually hit the president? The news would be very different this evening. It’s a sad day in American politics when the disregard and disdain for our president consumes yet another day of the media cycle. If President Bush is the laughing stock of the world, so is the United States.
