How do people become sex addicts?
Like other addictions, sex addiction is typically caused by more than one reason. Many people become sex addicts by using sex very much like a drug to attempt to meet their need for love, acceptance, and intimacy. Others have used sex to medicate deep pain, loneliness and emptiness which are rooted in past traumas, unmet legitimate needs, abuse, abandonment, and neglect. Whether someone has conditioned their body and mind to act out sexually to attain a “high” similar to a drug user, or someone is trying to fill up legitimate inner needs with their sexual addiction, the AVENUE program will help individuals identify the root cause(s) of the inappropriate behavior and lead them through the healing process.
