How does RFDC work?
RFDC is “wireless data collection.” Various types of hardware components exist in a wireless network. One of these is a “wireless access point” which is an interface from the wireless side to the wired side. Wireless data collection terminals with bar code scanners allow the data collection capability. Access points may be computer workstations with wireless cards or may be simply a “black box” type of device that needs to be configured via a TCP/IP or serial connection by telnet sessions or a hyper-terminal type connection. These devices are typically wall-mounted or simply placed on a desk or table and have the option for a remote antenna connection through low-voltage RF cable. Portable wireless terminals usually include an LCD display, bar code scanner, and a raised key or virtual keyboard. These terminals are referred to as Portable Data Collection Devices (PDCDs) and communicate directly with an access point or to a repeater or repeater network that communicates with an access po
