Is treeless riding a new concept?
The treeless saddle concept has been around for 2000 years. Ancient riders, if they werent riding bareback, had simply constructed layers of hide and horsehair to give them a more secure place on their horses back. It was only for military purposes that the tree became part of the saddle; mainly to allow soldiers to carry weapons and bags. The treed saddle unfortunately became standard. There have been a handful of saddle makers that have offered a treeless saddle in the past 30 years; most of them took a treed saddle and simply removed the tree, without understanding that the physiology of the saddle itself needed to be built AROUND the horse. The design of our Black Forest treeless saddles works from the bareback concept up, to keep the natural connection of bareback, while providing the security for the rider and spinal protection for the horse.
