is the plumbago hardy to ohio?
Is the plumbago plant hardy to this zone? I have one that I have been keeping in the garage during the winter months but I read somewhere that now is the time to plant them outside. I thought they were just hardy in Florida. It all depends on which plumbago you have. There are two common plants known as plumbago. One is Plumbago auriculata, AKA plumbago or skyflower. This is a tropical and not hardy enough for here in Ohio. This plant has lovely phlox like clusters of sky blue flowers and arching branches. If you walk into the plant, the flowers will literally stick to you. If this is the plant you have, it needs to come in for the winter. The other is Ceratostigma plumbaginoides aka: leadwort or hardy plumbago. This plant is hardy enough for Ohio. It is a fast growing ground cover with darker blue flowers in late summer. The rest of the plant in the fall gets sort of a burgundy cast to it. The first type would not likely survive in the garage, but the second would.
