Is animism monotheistic or polytheistic?
Animism holds that spirits exist in objects of the world around us – trees, mountains special rocks and so on. Since spirits, while supernatural, are not gods, it may be said that animism is neither monotheistic nor polytheistic. However, some animistic religions, perhaps in transition, may have a creator god or gods – in which case the varies from place to place.
