What types of sites are blocked?
The following types of sites are blocked by the Bess filter: Sites labeled as Adults Only: Any website which has been labeled by its author as being for adults. This also includes “You must be 18 to visit this site”, “You must be of legal drinking age to visit this site”, etc. Hate/Discrimination: Advocating discrimination against others based on race, religion, gender, nationality, or sexual orientation. Illegal: Any sites which advocate, promote, or give advice on carrying out acts widely considered illegal. This includes lock-picking, bomb-making, fraud, breaching computer security, phone service theft, pirating software, or evading law enforcement. Pornography: Material intended to be sexually arousing or erotic. Violence: Sites that contain graphic images or descriptions of wanton violence. Includes graphically violent games. Alcohol: Sites that advocate or promote the recreational use of alcohol. Drugs: Sites that promote or advocate the recreational use of any controlled substan
