How many species come to the sanctuary?
Only the rubythroated hummingbird (Archilocus colubris) breeds east of the Mississipi, and during the summer we only see this species. The adult male has a ruby throat, the adult female and juveniles have a silver throat. However, if you look carefully you will sometimes see 1 or 2 tiny red throat feathers on the juvenile males.
