What are some cures for broken pickups?
You need to carefully inspect the pickups to determine the cause of failure and this is what I look for. Here are a few examples: A. Check for damage to the coil or broken magnet wire. Normally can be repaired without complete rewinding. B. Check for cold solder joints and broken connections between coil and lead wire. Normally can be repaired without complete rewinding. C. Check for ICPC (inner coil pole corrosion) or rusting of pole pieces. The coil will have to be completely unwound to the break and rewound. D. Check for rearranged magnets in single coil pickups. Moving the magnets can break the inner coil. The coil will have to be completely unwound to the break and rewound. E. Warped coils and bobbins due to extreme moisture. The bobbin would have to be rebuilt and a new coil wound on the bobbin F. Bobbins are worn through and exposed coil is broken. The bobbin will have to be replaced and wound to the previous specifications.
