I’m not really in favour of these light carbohydrate foods as they seem proof positive that the low carb diet isn’t really a sustainable way of eating at all. If a diet needs the creation of a whole range of essentially unnatural foods to fill the gaps, then I’d question it’s validity as a safe and healthy diet at all. Foods with high amounts of sugar alcohol sweeteners (sorbitol, mannitol and xylitol) can act as a laxative, but I’d hope that the manufacturers are using amounts that won’t cause a problem under normal consumption. Certainly you would normally have to eat a lot of an artificially sweetened food to run into problems, though it does pay to be aware that bowel looseness can occur and be on the look out for it should you prove to be unusually sensitive. The other thing I’d urge you to check is the overall calorie content of these foods. Reduced fat foods were once seen as the great white hope for slimmers, but we now know that many of them are so loaded with sugar and refine
