Is ecstacy a designer drug?
Depends on your idea of a designer drug. Technically it is not, as designer drugs were made specifically for recreational use (Such as 2CB, 2CI, BZP, M2PP etc). MDMA, if I remember correctly was originally synthesized by a german company called Merck, I can’t remember why they made it but at the beggining they found no use (I suppose they never thought of ingesting it). Then, in the 60s, a guy called Alexander Shulgin rediscovered the drug and ingested it, and reported his findings. After this he promoted the drug as a therapy tool (Ecstasy makes people extremely open, and has the very unique capability of allowing people to explore deep, troubling and depressive parts of their mind without breaking down in tears, so people can think about them and discover more about their problems to help solve them). Mr. Shulgin then went on to synthesize many, many other drugs. These drugs are called designer drugs, as they were made specifically to be used as psychoactive substances.
