How many years at Hogwarts?
There are 7 years to a Hogwarts student’s study program. They enter “first year” when they are 11, and graduate, or become “of age” when they are 17. Although they can legally leave school during sixth year, it is recommended that they stay the duration as they will be better educated. Many say that there are 7 books because there are 7 school years, and while that’s partly true, the last book in the series somewhat counterargues that point. Happy reading!
Actually, they only need to go for six years unless they want to consider a position somewhere in the ministry at some point in their lives. Then they need a seventh year. Because they were of legal age and did not actually need seven years as they had no plans to join the ministry, Fred and George were able to leave in the middle of their seventh year.
