Do rats carry rabies?
Rats do not “carry” rabies, if what you mean by “carry” is to be infected but not be deathly ill from it. If the rat was a wild rat that lived outside in the countryside and it was sick when your cat caught it then there is a remote chance it was infected with rabies. Rabies would kill a rat the same way it would kill you. But I doubt there are any rabid animals of any kind around where you live. I never heard of a rabid dog or cat anywhere my whole life, in spite of dogs needing a rabies vaccine to prevent it (or because of the vaccine no dog or cat has ever become rabid my entire life). I’m sure you have never seen a rabid dog or cat your whole life either. No one has. That is a very good thing too since it is 100% fatal.
