Why don carnivores get Scurvy?

Eating other animals is a great source of all nutrients that the animal you’re eating has ingested. Biologically, the nutrients are already similar to the form your body needs so it absorbs them and puts them to good use very efficiently. Maybe that bird the wolf was snacking on has been eating lots of berries, get it? The issue with scurvy is from a lack of Vitamin C and is generally associated with ships and long journeys. Pirates, or more commonly war ships, explorers and emigrants, actually didn’t eat much meat, it was primarily baked goods, like “hard tack.” Like you said, meat doesn’t make the 3 month journey very well but a stale cracker did just fine. Fresh meat would’ve sufficed but a lime tree was easier to grow and served the purpose more readily. This is also the basis of why being a vegetarian is so dangerous. They need a lot more nutrients because they’re missing out on everything that’s easy for the body to absorb.
