Becoming a film critic is easy, the difficult part of the equation is becoming a film critic with a large audience. The key is this: you must be able to relate to your audience. A great film critic captures your thoughts, and translates them into words. It’s important to have a large pool of knowledge concerning film and its history. To be a critic of anything, it’s crucial that you know everything there is to know about it (impossible, but something to strive for). In regards to film, you should understand story, plot devices, characters, soundtracks, cinematography, production design, editing, and be able to put all of these into context.
