What is a Drug Interdiction Stop?

0

An interdiction stop (not just drug) is a stop designed to look for criminal activity. The idea is based on behavioral identification or i call it behavioral profiling (not illegal). An officer is taught to look for any behavior changes in drivers. Whats a behavior change? Unfortunately it’s any behavior that changes after the subject sees the officer and catches the officers attention as ‘not normal’. The idea is then to make a traffic stop based on a violation and attempt to engage the subject in conversation while noticing more behaviors from their person. The goal being to see nervousness for no ‘apparent’ reason. For instance, most drivers will relax after you explain the reason for the stop. If not, you need to investigate further. While drugs are usually the goal for the stops, a good interdiction officer will look for any/all crimes (like stolen property etc).
