Does anyone have a Basenji breed dog?
My neighbor has one. It does not bite, so in that respect it is good with kids. He is very forgiving of children’s roughness. Many of the kids in the neighborhood pet him and handle him with no problem. He is more “distant” than a beagle would be or other “kid breed” would be. He just has a more independent attitude than most dogs. He howls a lot, almost constantly, about anything that disturbs him. He is a nice dog, but they can’t seem to keep him fenced or contained. He wanders a lot, digs out of the fence, and runs the streets.
