It depends, but in general, both circuses and zoos exploit animals. Now in some cases, the animals are saved from the brink of extinction by having some of them in zoos, and that’s a questionable thing in itself. I mean, if the animal is going to be extinct, it seems pointless to prolong the process by keeping some specimens alive. After all, it is extremely unlikely that we will be able to reverse the process. I know, I know, there are some possible exceptions, such as the California Condor (but the jury’s still out on that. Will the condor REALLY come back, or are we just prolonging the inevitable by a few decades?) Zoos generally are not able to give the animals the scenario they need in order to be fully what nature intended them in the first place.
