How many different aromatic compounds have the formula C6H3Br3?
All aromatic compounds have a carbon ring. Since there are only six “one-valence” atoms in the formula, you know that the aromatic will have a six-carbon ring, a five-carbon ring will need seven “one-valence” atoms. So pick a carbon and label it one, then go around the circle clockwise and continue to number them. It doesn’t matter if we start off with placing the hydrogens or the bromines. In total there are three compounds, 1,2,3-bromobenzene 1,2,4-bromobenzene, and 1,3,5-bromobenzene. The reason why there are not more is because of it is the same shape, or is mirrored (since this compound is planar) of the same shape, then it will be the same compound and not an original one.
