Do the Tories have any policies?
As far as I can tell, they have one firm policy – to cut inheritance tax for a couple of thousand extremely rich people. All the rest is undecided and the subject of “reviews” or what the Tories would do *IF* they were in power at the moment but admit they won’t be able to do after the general election. Although the policy reviews were meant to present a “new-conservative” version of Blair’s “new Labour” most of the announcements I have heard from these reviews are distinctly old Tory such as more of the same deregulation that got the economy into the mess it is in now. Examples being solving the problem of HMRC losing 25m child benefit records by legalising the type of sloppy data management that caused it (under the guise of repealing the Data Protection Act). Or the proposal to grant Mr Murdoch his wish (probably in return for the Sun’s support at the election) to bring down tv/radio news down to the level of the tabloids by removing the obligation for broadcast news to be impartial
