ABAP/4 is a fourth generation programming language with Pascal like structured. It is a powerful language to program business application for SAPR/3 products. It is a proprietary language from SAP. Most of the application systems of SAPR/3 are written in ABAP/4 programming language. The entire ABAP/4 source code is made available to the end users when they buy SAPR/3 product. It is tempting to modify the resource code for a quick implementation of some of the special needs of an organization. It is a good practice not to modify the source code. Support from SAP and other implementation partners would not be available once the source code is modified. Most successful SAP implementations attempt near zero modifications to the original source code. Other ERP software such as BaaN, Oracle and Ramco also provide ABAP/4 like programming languages.
