Were did jazz music first start?
Jazz music grew out of the music made by African Americans in the south especially New Orleans. It started around the turn of the century and grew out of Ragtime, Blues, and the popular Marching Band music of the time. It is a blend of Western and African music, and shares elements of both, It was essentially a marching band that used the African influence of syncopated rhythms, call and response, pentatonic scales, and improvisation.
