Who thinks David Ortiz took steriods?
Ortiz never went from 10 to 50 home runs. Starting at age 24 he went 10, 18, 20, 31, 41, 47, 54. That is a pretty steady and natural progression with the bigges jump (20 to 31) coinciding with a switch from Minnesota to friendly Fenway, playing full time instead of platooning and having Manny Ramirez behind him in the order. If you look historically at any big home run hitter, you will find a lot of bigger jumps in power numbers as player mature. So, I don’t know if Ortiz did steroids or not, but I don’t see anything unusual in his power numbers that suggest it. EDIT: I’d like to add that I’m a Yankee fan, too, and have the utmost respect for Big Papi as a hitter. But man, they need to brush this guy off the plate once in a while. He’s WAAAY to comfortable up there.
