Why is iago upset with othello?
Multiple reasons and ways of looking at the character: Iago is basically a jealous person: he’s jealous because Cassio got promoted, he’s jealous because Othello married Desdemona, and he’s jealous because Othello is black and yet has power and acceptance whereas Iago is white but has no power, except his brain and charm. He is also sadistic: most of these reasons he admits are weak reasons for wanting to do what he did (‘i do love her (des)…not out of pure love…partly to diet my revenge’).
