There are different types of UV light, A, B and C. The lamp in your case should be of the least harmfull type which is A, but exposure over time could cause damage. The type that causes cancer/ cell damage is B. UV light can make plastic brittle, clothes fade, reduce the life span of DVD-R’s. It’s very important to keep writable optical media away from UV light, it will rapidly shorten it’s lifespan. It’s also what causes people to get a sun tan. Many normal lamps produce huge amounts of UV especially Metal Halide. Compact Flourescent bulbs also give off plenty of UV, place a plastic lamp shade on one and in a years time you will find the lampshade is very brittle. In all likelyhood, you are likely to do more damage to your eyes by going out in bright sunshine than you ever could from looking at your PC case. If you are really worried, you can get a stick on UV filter
