JAA stands for Joint Aviation Authority of Europe. Based in the Netherlands, they are the Civil Aviation Government Authority for the Europe Union. Supposedly the JAA was going to unite the Civil Aviation Government Authorities of Europe, however that has not happened. There now are different “flavors” of the JAA system, including the UK CAA, the French system, ect. If you are not going to fly in Europe stop reading right now.
