What colour toga did Pompey wear?
White with a purple band (toga pretexta), which was the uniform of a senator who had held a major magistracy. (curule magistracies : curule aediles, praetors and consuls) Pompey’s first consulship was in 70 BC, but it’s likely he earned his laticlave earlier in the 14 previous years, as the limited pool of patricians eligible for the varius magistacies meant they were likely to hold most possible posts during their career, short of maybe consulship. When notshowing off his senatorial rank, he would have worn a plain white toga (toga pura). Dyed and colored styles became common only later during the imperial period.
