What are Indie comics?
For the purposes of this FAQ, indie means anything not produced by either Marvel, DC, or their imprints. This isnt technically accurate since it lumps a large respected publishing house like Fantagraphics together with an artist like Ben Jones who gleefully ingests his own cocktail of psychotropic drugs, lets loose on computer paper with some sharpies and a ballpoint pen and then scampers off to the nearest Xerox machine, his bare feet leaving loveclouds of nag champa behind him. However, the cold engine of the Comics Industry – and, to a greater extent, the Publishing Industry at large – loves to throw books together under vague labels to make them more palatable, so well play by this rule as well, for ease of explanation.
