Why is it called Snuf-l / Snuffle?

0

Snuffle takes its name from two accidents of history: firstly that the Network Users’ Forum was originally launched as the Sheffield Network Users’ Forum (hence snuf) in 1995; secondly, that the list started in 1995 using software called ‘listserv’, that required us to put an -l at the end of the address – hence the address for mailings was snuf-l. And then snuf-l had to be pronounced – so it was called Snuffle. All very straightforward really.
