Who Will Buy Gatwick Airport?
BAA have stuck a ‘For Sale’ sign in London Gatwick’s Sussex runway today in response to the provisional Competition Commission ruling to sell off 3 of its UK airports, preferably 2 of its London ones. Despite the ‘credit crunch’ and portents of city collapse, when the ruling was delivered BAA was already getting £3billion offers from assorted consortia. Virgin, Manchester Airport Group and the Dubai Royal Family are all rumoured to be raiding their balance sheets and lining up bids. Whichever gets their greasy mits on the UK’s second largest airport, we’d advise them to turn their attention to its “vast neon-lit Hades” aspect so Boris has a better jolly holiday next year.
