what is the best font?
My favorite font is Albertus Medium, but one of the most common fonts is Times New Roman. It may be a little boring, but it’s very readable and it explains why it’s the default font for most applications. Default doesn’t mean best, though. It’s all a matter of taste. In general, I find serif fonts to be more attractive and more readable, so I’d recommend them for most uses. Here’s my favorite free font site. You can find some really nice ones there and it’s pretty easy to browse: http://simplythebest.net/fonts/ I hope this helps!!
The font you use should be tied to your need. You probably wouldn’t use the same font for a children’s document as you would for a professional document for example. There is, in short, no one “best” font. That said, there do appear to be some generally agreed upon guidelines. Most designers use serif fonts for the text because the serifs help tie the words together and increase readability. San Serif fonts are best for titles and subtitles as their use increases the reader’s ability to scan the document. Most designers also suggest san serif fonts for presentations. You can find out more about these concepts in this academic paper or this non-academic one.
