Is Chile a third world country?
Please don’t use the expression, Third World Country. The correct term is Developing Country/Nation. It’s a little more respectful & considering there are no more Second World countries (Communist Block), the term is redundant. I’m from Chile and we are definitely not a 3rd world country. I’ve visited myself a lot of countries, including the neighborhood, USA and Europe, and we are far away from some countries (namely swiss, germany), but not so far from USA. The thing here is that the income is very unbalanced (not as in other countries, but more than USA), We don’t have extreme poverty, none dies from hunger or diarrhea, but a lot of people lives with less than us$500 per month, or even as low as us$250 per month. The other issue, is that the cities are also unbalanced. Santiago, the capital has nothing to envy from some USA cities. Has a nice and clean Metro on the underground, some skyscrapers, nice 5 stars Hotels like Hyatt, Raddison, Marriot, etc… It also has the best roads and highways on the area… But on the other side, there’s a lot of other cities that are way behind in progress… we have more than 50% Internet penetration on homes and or Mobile phones have 8 numbers plus ID code (about 2 years
