How is Methadone Abused?
Methadone is commonly used to help break one’s addiction to another substance like heroin. It is effective at relieving withdrawal symptoms that can otherwise cause intense pain and suffering in the patient. But, when methadone is taken incorrectly or against the prescribed directions, it can easily evolve from an abuse situation into a full-blown addiction. Methadone is available in a range of forms, from liquid to tablet to injections. In most drug rehab cases, methadone is safely administered by a highly trained staff, but the drug is increasingly becoming available on the street level which makes it one of the fastest growing addictive substances available.
