What did The spoils system under Andrew Jackson resulted in?
Jackson believed in the ability of the “common man” to participate in government. Furthermore, Jackson believed that if he replaced members of the losing party (that is, Republican) he would be able to persuade them of his choices more easily. He made use of the spoils system to reward his supporters. The spoils system, in and of itself, is not a bad political move. The executive must have people that believe in his policies in order to get his programs completed. He appoints people he believes can help him accomplish his goals. Unfortunately, some presidents appoint people who are not always qualified to fulfill the job or, in some cases, not always honest.
