WHAT HAPPENED TO RUTH?
Since she kept underlining that her lifestyle is only the result of riding on Cal’s wave, she most likely became poor. Considering her personality and views on life and lower class, it’s interesting how she would react to becoming one of those who she considered as unimportant and trivial as insects. She also could’ve gone mad. Not only because of her financial situation but also because of the loss of her daughter. Ruth seems to be very taken watching the sinking and then being numb and devastated afterwards in the boat.
