What to do with a negative exponent?

0

The idea is to combine the exponents for each variable. When a negative exponent is on the bottom it is just made positive and brought to the top, which I think is what you were having trouble with. Do this one variable at a time. Afterwords multiply each exponent by the power the whole things raised to.
